The 2013 Tinto Procura has been seen before, but since this is the best red I've seen yet from this young winery, it is worth a second look. It is a blend of 55% Alicante Bouschet and 45% a field blend from old vines in Portalegre, aged for 16 months in French oak (30% new, 70% second year). This has evolved nicely, no longer showing astringency but showing tension and verve, plus moderate tannins. Fresh but deep for the region and style, this is a classic food wine, something that has enough concentration to go with its fine acidity, perfect balance and gorgeous, lifted fruit. Although the astringency has faded mostly, it would be worth putting this away for another year. The acidity and general structure should preserve it well.

For two years I’ve searched all over Alentejo for the perfect vineyard. It was only in 2011 that I finally found the two vineyard blocks I was looking for, even though with radical differences between them. While one of the blocks hides a vineyard of Alicante Bouschet with very low yields, planted on schistous soils, near Évora, the second block hides a mixed traditional vineyard in a much cooler part of Alentejo. A traditional mixed vineyard of extremely low yields that adds an unusual complexity and freshness to the wine. The combination of the two blocks gives birth to this unique and full of character wine.

Dark red color. Fruity and intense but without any traces of over maturation, it shows intriguing tobacco leaves notes, pencil lead and a powerful mineral sensation that combine with a slight vegetal feeling that adds tension and complexity. Powerful but sharp, austere but still delicate on tannins, it ends up fresh and vigorous.
